A caduceus, or wand of Hermes, was an ancient astrological symbol of commerce. During the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, many medical groups adopted the twin serpent caduceus of Hermes or Mercury as a medical symbol. The caduceus, also known as the wand of Hermes, has been used as an astrological symbol of commerce for centuries. In the 19th and 20th centuries, this symbol was adopted by many medical groups and organizations as a symbol of medicine. The twin serpent caduceus of Hermes or Mercury is often used to represent the medical profession, particularly in the United States. Despite some controversy surrounding the use of caduceus in medicine, it remains a popular and recognizable symbol for healthcare professionals worldwide.
