The piece
About this piece
The Double-Headed Eagle is associated with Scottish Freemasonry and is significant to them as a symbol of vision and initiation. The Double-Headed Eagle was also sacred to German Heraldry and royalty. The German eagle had its head turned to the left, and the Roman eagle to the right. When Charlemagne was crowned “Kaiser of the Holy Roman Empire”, he united the two heads, one facing east and the other west, thus symbolizing the union of these two powers.
